Description
Anglian Water is looking to procure a satellite technology solution to positively detect the loss of waste water from underground pipes across large rural geographical landscape and urban development areas. The technology must be able to easily identify different water sources, however the primary focus is the ability to distinguish between ground water and sewage water, and it needs to present enough accuracy to initiate minimum on-ground investigations.
Total Quantity or Scope
Waste water and environmental pollution surveillance project, sewage leak detection and monitoring. Satellite surveys to investigate potential leaks from waste water pipes and other potential sources of pollution. The proposal covers 9300km, 4 data sets over 2024.

Legal Justification
Absence of competition for technical reasons; Anglian Water is working hard to become more efficient and accurate with sewage leakage detection methodologies, specifically to enable more timely identification of leaks, type of leaks and therefore reducing the number of field inspections to confirm and pinpoint leaks and the fix solution required. As such Anglian Water requires a satellite based technology solution in order to be able to positively detect the loss of waste water from underground pipes across large rural geographical landscape and urban development areas. Water type (i.e. Sewage) must be distinguishable to enable an accurate identification of water type to be highlighted. These satellite images should be able to be overlaid onto landmarks and topographical features of the landscape being scanned in order to ensure Anglian Water can build up an accurate profile of the area and ensure that the correct planning can be undertaken. Results should be presented in a GIS format which can be overlaid onto Anglian Water's GIS data to ensure as accurate picture as possible. Anglian Water has researched the market and can only locate one provider who is able to meet our requirements, which will enable Anglian Water to meet our efficiency and leakage goals utilising such technology. There are no other companies that can offer this as yet because of the patents are held by Asterra and this technology is sold by Suez.
